Library Fine Amnesty: An Idea that Might be Worth Considering

Number of overdue books returned last year to the San Francisco Public Library during a two-week “fine amnesty”: 29,228

Number of years a copy of George Bernard Shaw’s Man and Superman had been overdue: 45

Taken from Harper’s Index, November 2010.  We do offer a full month of Food for Fines.  But total amnesty?  Just the terminology, especially if coupled with very high rate of overdue returns, could win the library some positive free coverage from local media.
