Quote for the Day: Nietzsche on Palin

The newspaper reader says: this party destroys itself by making such a mistake.  My higher politics says: a party which makes such mistakes has reached its end; it has lost its sureness of instinct.

– Friedrich Nietzsche in Twilight of the Idols

Yes, of course, Nietzsche was no liberal, and it is difficult to speculate what he might have made of our contemporary American political scene.  However, I found it impossible not to think of the Republican Party’s most recent nominee for Vice-President when I read this passage.

Update: And this may be further evidence of that party’s increasing loss of instinct.
